A couple of days ago I was going through some local websites to buy TVs, one of the websites which didn’t have a promotion apparently increased the prices for a new cash back promotion, and the price increased overall from 229.900 to 299.9 KWD with a 25 KD Cash Back! ? ? ? ? ?

I’m sure blink don’t have anything to do with it, but they shouldn’t allow an increase in price just to have a cash back promotion with an increase in price instead of decrease in price!!!! That’s one TV company i’m not going to buy from and one website i’ll check twice before clicking on buy!!

Movie Review – Elysium

Looking at the beginning of it and the people speaking different languages from the very start, I wasn’t really hooked into it. However going past the first 20 mins, the movie gets intense and you tend to get involved and anxious to see what happens next.

The movie is basically another hero saves the earth and dies movie, it would’ve been nice to have an alternate ending where evil would win I think they would’ve had better reviews, it was very predictable that Matt Deamon would die, but they could’ve twisted it a little e.g. due to the radiation the program thought he was dead anyway he lives, the evil women who wanted to rule the world could have died in a more dramatic fasion – to some it up the ending should’ve been a lot more dramatic or at least a lot more exciting, they killed a very nice movie in the ending. Close to the idea of the movie “In Time” (the one with justin Timberlake). They could’ve made the radiation poisoning also more dramatic and how it messed up his life and so on, but they made him superman too soon. 

To sum it up I would give it a rating of around 6.2/10, IMDB’s rating of 6.8 was fare however a little over rated. Its worth watching its a nice movie

Which TV To buy ?

Now is the time for discounts and i’m really thinking about getting a new LED TV for my Living room, i’m thinking about 46 – 55″ LED tv’s and not necessarily a smart TV or 3D capable, and in a reasonable price. 

The Tv’s i’m actually looking at are : 

1. The Sony Bravia 47″ 3D LED TV R500A , seems like a good value for money, its got passive 3D glasses which is also a + when coming to the 3D world as the glasses tend to be lighter and more comfortable to wear. The styling is also futuristic in its nature which is an added benefit. 

2. The Samsung 46 Inch Full HD LED TV, this isn’t one of the latest screens out there but the price is about right, no 3D though.

 

3. The TV i’m leaning towards (due to the 50″ Screen) and the price, also is a very good value for money compared to the other screens, no 3D though. 

5. LG 47″ 3D Full HD, Quite nice looks and design overall, a little over budget for me, but I might sacrifice for the extra features. The 3D here is also passive, and its got an impressive contrast ratio of 6m:1, also built in Wifi, with Media Link and DLNA. I think i’ll be passing by Best tomorrow to have a look ! Two player view on 3D!, flicker free passive glasses + i think I made my mind up, while i’m writing this :p

6. Philips 46PFL4008/56 46″  screen, LED TV, no 3D, very good value for money. 

7. Same as 6, but including 3D – 40 KD difference. 

8. Like 5 the Toshiba, i’m leaning towards this for the price and Size of the screen. Quite impressive, but I have to see them in real life!

I’ll be visiting different showrooms to see the screens in person. I’ll keep you updated with the decision, in the mean time please do help out with your recommendations! Which one do you think I shoud go with – I’m looking at a budget of around 240 KD but will be able to pay 50 more if its worth it / has more features. 

The Day I fell in love with the 911 Carrera S

We were invited to test drive different Porsche’s in the Sirbb circuit last week and boy was it an experience. The first time i’ve really driven a car on track, and it was great!

I arrived at the circuit at 3.30 PM, I must admit i was impressed, its a great circuit! Looks amazing.

We were greeted by the lovely view of parked Porches, all colors and sizes.

This was the GREAT team from Porsche, all of them are professional race drivers, that were there to teach us some basics and show us what the cars were capable of. As I told our coach Paul, if I ever wanted to buy a porsche it would because I would know great people like the drivers we met worked on making these cars better for us! Amazing team!

Here the instructor was explaining to us the concept behind the mid-engine boxter and how it would have a different driving feel to it. I loved this driving experience the car felt very steady and was quite powerful for the smallest engine. Check out the following video :

Here we tried the braking power and stability of the Porsche Cayenne. If I would’ve done the same exercise with my FJ cruiser my car would’ve ended up behind the barriers in the back.

Here the test drivers (Paul and Paul) were telling us about the two exercises we were about to do next. Tesing the Launch control on the Panemra and the Slalom using the Carrera S.

This was one of the Panemera’s that was on display (certified pre-owened) it had a great interior. I always thought that Panemera’s were large, but when you drive one you get to feel its quite compact for their large size.

Here, the car i fell in love with ! Amazing car, it was the Carrera S, rear wheel drive, great power, the sports exhaust package just made the car sound amazing, and the drifting out of the rear tires was also amazing and gave me quite an adrenaline rush, it was too cold and it was the last exercise, i only wish we had more time to do it again!

At the end of the event was a taxi ride with the professional racing drivers from the Porsche Team, it was amazing ! Overall the event was very well organized, the location was superb and we all loved the experience!

Free CAP Upgrade from ZAIN !

Zain introduced their updated CAP policies yesterday, and that means good news to anyone who has a current plan or anyone planning on buying a new one. All existing customers were automatically upgraded to the new plans.

A couple of months back the smartphone package was increased to 30 GB from the previous 12 GBs, we all predicted that there might be a change, but we never though the change would be so Amazing! 300 GB’s per month is by far one of the highest cap allowance available in the market today, compared to the Kuwaiti market, both the other two companies don’t have anything as good as this right now. As well as the fact that you do get 4G coverage nationwide and an overall better coverage in many areas in Kuwait.

Even better, there’s no daily limit, and if you consume your cap you can simply buy more, which was a limitation with a couple of other Telecom providers.

The main changes were for the subscribers who had the following CAPS :

2 GB -> 6 GB

35 GB -> 80 GB

80 GB  -> 300 GB

with the same prices!

My First Stop Motion Video Experience

Our friend @f_alrajhi helped recording and adding a soundtrack and editing the video (he did it all, I assisted lol – trying to steal credit ;P ). Here’s what we came up with  :

Broken Windshield due to bad roads!!!

I don’t know if its because my FJ cruiser’s windshield is too steep, these days on Fahaheel road, I keep getting hit buy flying stones, there’s a map drawn on my Windshield now, and somewhere after the 6th ring road, right after the Adan Bridge, there’s something wrong with the road it gets very very dusty and rocks are everywhere, its like the road’s top layer has fell apart. I only travel by it on my way home and its usually dark so its not feasible to take a photo. I’ll try to take a photo for you to see tomorrow. Apparently there was a car accident and that lead to the road being damaged, but I don’t seem to understand why they can’t clean it up! It’s both dangerous and really damages our cars + there’s no way to avoid getting hit!

The map illustrates the location, its the road going towards fahaheel, if you have a nice car, or really love your car, don’t drive there on non-fully blocked times, as other cars will cause the debris to fly around and break things.  :/ i hope they fix it asap, to avoid that i add 17 mins to my route home :/ . You would imagine it wouldn’t happen in a country like Kuwait – But in reality its there!

Back to the Dukan Diet

Its been about a year since i’ve stopped dieting and i’ve put on about 11 KG’s above my ideal weight :/ About 3 weeks ago while shopping in Bahrain, I decided that in order for me to look good in the clothes I would have to change my attitdue towards my body and start eating better and loosing weight, as well as eventually hitting the gym!

I started the Dukan Diet again, although I didn’t continue 100% with it last time, its results were very good with me and i’ve lost a good amount of weight in a short period of time. Time for some serious dieting next week and the week after and I should reach my ultimate weight, which I will bypass by 1.5 kg’s so that when I start the gym I can gain extra weight for muscle.

For those of you who don’t know the Dukan Diet its basically a diet with a number of phases. This following video by Dr. Pierre Dukan illustrates the Dukan Diet Concept.

I’m currently on the cruise phase, can’t wait to get to the consolidaton phase. Its quite a challenge, but today i’m challenging one of my friends who’s taking an easy way out via liposuction, our challenge date is in June 2014. I love challenges, and this will help me get to my target weight and body shape by June 2014.

I’ve actually subscribed to the Dukan Diet program, i’ll share with you more information about their website in a future post! if you have good self control, and need to loose weight, I would recommend you check out the Dukan Diet.

The MSI Dragon 2 – Every Gamer’s Dream!

These days its easy to build up your own gaming machine, ordering the correct parts and getting them all together to form your ultimate gaming machine, but the main disadvantage is usually gaming machines come with very very heavy non-mobile cases, meaning simply you can only enjoy your games in the comfort of your room/office/man cave. Well that’s where the MSI Dragon Edition 2 Comes in!

A 17″, 3 Output capable solid gaming machine, with gamers as the segment the manufacturer intended.

Beautifully designed in red, with dragons etched in the red aluminum panels that cover the device, a SteelSeries keyboard which can give the gamers an amazing hold of things, Dynaudio sound, which is quite an amped up sound quality for a portable machine with built in speakers, kind f reminded me of my older Toshiba Satellite with Harmon/Kardon Speakers, its that good!

Secondly lets have a look at the screen shots of the device specs after we’ve powered the beast up (you can get these in all windows computers, and you can compare your computer to it!)

As you can see the specs are quite amazing, and the configuration is more than enough to handle nearly any game you put it through! (Although windows doesn’t really show both graphic card drivers, i tried to search for a solution but couldn’t find any)

I also put it through some very cool benchmark tests to check out the graphic card’s performance and It gave quite satisfying results (Check out the video below of the recording of the actual 3DMark benchmark test) then read on for the results!

 

According to the 3D mark test, the device scored 51% better than all the results, and was way better than the average gaming laptops! The Snapshot below shows you the graphic card’s properties and specs:

Now lets do an inspection covering the physical dimensions of the device :

First, is the beautiful steelSeries LED customizble backlit keyboard, you can also specify specific areas to light up for different games ! A full sized keyboard comes with great comfort, as well as having a full sized num-pad ! My only remark was that they removed the windows key on the left hand side, but when I read reviews, they said it was to make sure that it wasn’t clicked by mistake during the game!

These are a remembrance of what’s under the hood (like you can forget :P)

The mouse pad also very well designed, the clicks are a little too loud for my liking, but I still love it! It wasn’t illuminated however, which sometimes can be an advantage, since the trackpad’s illumination can be distracting at times.

Here’s what the beautiful machine looks like when its powered up!

Here is an overview of the upper easy touch keys, where you can modify things like airplane mode, brightness, open a browser, and modify the gaming mode as well as many others.

Like any other windows 8 machine, the metro style boxes, which are customizable, this was straight out of the box without any modifications! The LED screen is full HD, and the anti-gloss surface makes it great for using anywhere, unlike my current m14x alienware which reflects almost anything!

Here we have the gold plated output jacks 2 fo audio out, one for the headset and one for the mic, as well as 3 USB 3.0 jacks and a memory card reader slot!

On the other side we have 2 USB 2.0 drives, and a CDROM DRIVE.

On the back is where all the action is, power, ethernet, and 3 display ports which you can connect to and display on all simultaneously, add your 173 inch screen and you end up with 4 screens to multi-task on !

 I really really liked the device, I never thought I’d like a 17 inch screen, but you can do almost anything with it, without needing to connect it to another screen, its great for movies, and the sound quality is very impressive. The price tag.. A little expensive at 899 KWD (price might have changed in the time of writing), but then again you are getting really high quality specs for what you’re spending and with all the power it has you can do anything with it! Although the large size the weight it at around 4 KG which for those specs and screen size are bearable!

Overall I would recommend it for anyone seeking to buy a great quality gaming laptop, they are now sold exclusively by BEST Electronics, and they are the official distributors for MSI products in the Kuwaiti market now.
