This morning I woke up to my phone receiving tons and tons of emails, one after the other. I decided to check the status of Akismet (one of the best spam blocking engines for wordpress), on the blog we weren’t able to connect to the server, Akismet’s website and blog don’t mention any outages, however the website : http://status.automattic.com/9931/136079/Akismet-API specifies that there might be service disruption.

How to stop all those comments from hitting your blog (which is potentially dangerous and could overload your web server taking your site down – DNS Attack!), well go to settings ->Discussion -> and enable (Only registered users can comment). This will really cut down on spam until Akismet get their act together i guess.

 

 

 

Plane Spotting a nice hobby in good weather!

When were in the states, I looked around on the GPS unit for some attractions, and I found an Aircraft Observation Area, I though it was cool my wife thought it would be a waste of time (but I was driving hehe) It had a small playing area for the kids and a great green field in front of the observation area, and a beatiful beautiful view of the planes coming in!

 

I took photos of the plane and my wife sat on the seaing area, she liked the greenery, the open field, the kids played in the open play area. It was a nice visit and i’d recommend it to anyone staying new the BWI airport. I wish we can have something like this in Kuwait! (Might only be for 2-3 months a year, but it would be a great picnic area/play area and recreational area)

Instagram beta now on Windows Phones

This comes with good news and bad news, the good news is there is instagram for Windows phones now, but its in the Beta stage, meaning its limited to viewing only (within the application), and you cannot post directly from the app, you have to take a photo then upload that photo and add filters to it etc..

Also its not possible to add people to a photo, and it won’t refresh a feed automatically, according to the developers in an official statement “We wanted to make Instagram available to people with Windows Phones as quickly as possible, so we focused on creating an awesome experience with Instagram’s core features”.

The Avenues Prestige Museum

Tonight we were invited to the avenues museum, little did I know was that the museum was a fashion event :/ Even if its not at all my area, I decided to make the best of thing and share with you some of the interesting collection displayed in the Avenues Prestige Museum.

I don’t come here often with a camera, but the place was so photography friendly I think I should bring my camera around here more often!

The Display area was at the center to the right and left of the Center fountain in prestige, and showcases some priceless items of clothing, that were worn by celebrities and next to each showcase is a description and actual photograph of the dress /accessory in action (I know my terminology is not fashion friendly :P)

The only display with mens Item, a watch i quite fell in love with  The Hublot King Power ! its a unique watch, limited edition with only 250 ever made!

Our Morning with Steve Wozniak!

Yesterday we had a chance to meet Steve Wozniak, Co-Founder of Apple, at Zain’s Knowledge Conference 2013. Great personality, very friendly and seems like the person who would develop technology for development sake not for  profit! He talked to us about innovation, and how he started off before apple, before getting a college degree, then about his venture in Apple and that some parts of the Steve jobs movie were lacking the truth or had misinterpreted information, seems he wasn’t 100% happy with Steve Jobs and he mentioned (borrowing ideas and not referencing them back – including the name – “Apple Computers”). Overall it was a great experience with a very humble human being. 

Sitting listening to him made me realize that sometimes you should move on and actually build your ideas, they don’t all have to be 100% successful, you learn from experience which is what landed him a job in Hp before he had a college degree.

The tables were packed with Zain employees and some bloggers who had a chance to meet Steve Wozniak and individually take a photo with him in the end!

Here Steve was discussing how technology is changing ever so fast, maybe by the time ideas are thought out today  for new products and devices, they can be replaced by other technologies that evolve ever so rapidly. 

The host of the event asking Steve Wozniak questions was Mr. Hani Al Kukhun, Zain Kuwait’s COO.

Hear The Enemy Creeping Behind You!

Don’t get too excited to the title its a Headset! A gaming headset that is! I wanted a gamin headset I can use with my PS3 and Xbox at the same time and I wasn’t sure what to go with! i came accross these in a store in Abu Dhabi and read some reviews online, and decided to go with the Turtle Beach Headsets!

As you can see you have the option of using this headset with your phone, computer, and both consoles. 

Large headsets make you listen multi-directionally, giving you a sense of being in the game. I got used to playing on mute using the headsets takes the game to another level!!

The controller allows you to control all aspects, and easily mute the opponents or yourself, no  – i pressed the wrong button or  – i ran out of batteries, or i can’t connect to bluetooth, these were great!

The top box contains a maual and the bottom one contains three different kinds of cables shown below.

Under the top compartment comes the speaker and the control module : 

Alothough the wires are long, you do have to have your analogue PS3 connectors to use this, i used my headphone out jack on my screen, but that meant I had to relocate my PS3 (which was the best choice overall). 

The Major League Gaming Logo reassures you are playing with the best!

A wide headband makes the headsets sit comfortably on the head. 

The Mic is also adjustable and comfortable as well as clear at recording. 

Overall Gaming wise, I’ve tried it with COD Black Ops II and it was great! The only downside is that you have to have your analogue cables with you to be able to use these or improvise using the 3.5 Audio Output jack on your screen (if equipped). I got these for around 23 KD, from LuLu Center in Abu Dhabi. You can find them here on Amazon. 

Adobe Accounts HACKED!

Most users on the Adobe website that have registered with Adobe.com, have to change their emails and credentials, as these emails may have been leaked out to the public, as attackers have gained access to Adobe and made this information vulnerable. if you have an account with adobe, make sure you do not use that username (or email) and password combination in any other website, you should update all the sites accordingly and stop using that vulnerable password!

Apparently, Adobe used a weak algorithm for password encryption, which might put your user information at risk! Our hosting provider sent an email indicating that my email might be used, as it appeared in the database of leaked emails.

Time to let the SAVAGE Out!

Its been almost 1 full year with my Savage X tucked away in it’s humble garage hehe. Now its time to unleash the Nitro powered beast and enjoy life a bit.

I bout this around 4 or even 5 years ago, Its  a fun toy, (absolutely not for children under 13-14), its fast, make a lot of noise and is more durable than many other RC Nitro powered cars, because of its construction, Aluminum Chassis and Cool suspension springs.

Will definitely add some more decals and clean it up a bit, then we’ll be ready for some madness, check out the video of what this beast can do below!

I currently have the 4.1 Big block, the following video is of the 4.6 Big Block Engine!

Jet Airways – The Experience

One flight might not be a way to measure how good or bad an airline is, but for me and my experience, it would be the last time I fly on board jet airways! 

We flew from Abu Dhabi to kuwait, the plane was nearly full, but we flew around 20 minutes early which was a great advantage, the staff were friendly,  However for me the disadvantages on this flight outweigh the advantages. 

I wanted to upgrade my seat, because I wasn’t really happy with the location and odour in my current seat, however they said you can only upgrade on the counter and not on the plane, most airlines will ask the captain and they will set a price then and there. 

The other major major disadvantage was that the AC was so warm it was like just re-circulated air without any cooling which made it even worse to take in, it was hot and I just didn’t feel it was a clean plane overall. I flew in on another low budget airline but the standard was way different it was uncomparable. For me thats it, i had a very bad first impression, one of my friends flew on one of their larger planes to South East Asia, he said their standards were very good and they were very professional, so its up to you eventually.

You can hear the Ferrari going all the way around the track.. AMAZING! Unfortunately they didn’t have any bookings available for the time of my stay, it was only tour which I didn’t feel like going, but might go tomorrow. Unfortunately i didn’t bring my DSLR with me :/ I only had the canon G10 this was the best I can get from my location.
