I’ve been looking through and re-editing and posting some of my GulfRun photos from GulfRun 9 and identifying areas of improvement and things I have missed in those shoots to prepare for GulfRun X. 2 Weeks ago I was given the opportunity to try out the new iRing by AAuxx from Ubuy.com.kw,  they have 3 – 4 different styles you can choose from, including one that is Ubuy branded which, their prices are from 3.5-5.5 KD.

Whats so Unique about this ring, is unlike the sling grips we liked and got used to, you can actually use the iRing as a stand and place your handset in an inclined manner on the table or hang it on the provided hook which makes it a lot more appropriate than the traditional sling grip.

To install, As the instructions simply stated, just clean the surface of the handset or cover really well using an Alcohol tab and remove the sticky backing and stick the iRing to your device, now you don’t have to worry, as the original clip has quite an impressive glue, I was able to remove it and install it 3-4 times (until I found the most comfortable grip) and I still have it on for more than 2 weeks and its holding really well!

The nice thing about this clip as I said earlier was the ability to hang the handset from the provided hook (with Strong 3m backing)

Even better, when rotating the handset the iRing will hold the rotation angle, just as you can see in the pictures above, allowing me to hang the phone in a portrait or landscape mode.

The downside, well as every product out there any thing you add to a handset’s will increase the handset’s overall size, and in the case of the iRing, the size will increase by about 5 mm, which for some people might be considered inappropriate, for me it added a layer of protection to the camera, as the note 3’s camera sits flush on the table.

Something I would love to install on my FJ Cruiser

I’ve been wanting a remote start functionality on my FJ Cruiser for quite some time, I don’t trust the guys at AlZeena Street to install a security system for me especially one with a remote start option, and i’m really thinking of ordering one online, however i’m trying to get hold of all the wiring instructions and parts.

Basically this is a similar system to the one I would like, however it would have an additional LCD Screen, here’s the basic functionality :

The LCD screen basically provides the same functionality as the one in the video but displays the results graphically instead of just via a blinking LED, this particular model has a 1 mile range, which is pretty awesome !

I’ve also read around a little, in order for me to be able to install a remote start functionality I would have to install a Immobilizer Bypass module, which through a bit of reading I was able to find at idatalink.com, however I have to investigate further :

Since all new cars are equipped with an immobilizer system, which is basically a sensor that reads a small chip on your key that is programmed specifically for your car key, you would need a bypass module (instead of loosing a spare key’s chip).

If I can get enough information i might take the risk and do the install myself, however its not as easy as it seems, they all recommend to do it at a professional installer.

So far its a research in progress, there are a couple of shops that do this in the UAE and KSA, however i’m not aware of any that install them here, i’ll pass by a couple of stores in the weekend and see, and i’ll update you on the blog. If you know places please do tell me about them!

و اسعارهم كما هو مبين بالصورتين في الاعلى115 – 140 دينار تقريبا للسلفر و144- 175 دينار للبلاك اديشن واما الهيرو 4 العادية فسعرها تقريبا 46 دينار كويتي و لكن تاتي بمواصفات بسيطة  و سنسر الكاميرا بجودة 5 ميجا بيكسل فقط وجدت ان هنالك فرق بين اسعار الموقع الاوروبي و الشرق الاوسط والمتجر الامريكي كما هو مبين في الصورتين في الاعلى

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 CyanogenMod Experience

I’ve been using the CyanogenMod for more than 2 weeks now, and all I can say is that I wish I knew about it and had the guts to root a long time ago!

My galaxy Note 3 was running the latest software available at the time which was the 4.4.2 Kit Kat. Basic, slow and sluggish compared to most new phones and especially when compared with the new LG G3. Although the hardware was similar,  there was a huge difference in the performance due to the amount of bloatware on the device itself.

My battery when at 20 % wouldn’t last me a couple of hours whereas now, I can go to sleep and wake up and have time to charge it at the office the next day! So I can definitely say that the battery life has seen a huge improvement. I sync all my apps with my Google account so I do relatively have all the same apps I had before I moved to the CyanogenMod.

The performance

The performance is like having the same car you drove to work everyday but use race gas on it. It’s a lot faster, lighter and less sluggish. I used to have instagram shut down in the middle of scrolling, and Its happened to a couple of friends on the same software, however, I can honestly say after the upgrade the system is a lot more stable and the performance is like buying a new phone! I really felt it was sooo slow and sluggish, but now its as if its a new phone all together.

Arabic works fine on the phone without any issues just like it would on a stock android distribution. Google Now features, the Google play store and everything else is functioning like it should with no issues.

Things I miss?

Well I can’t really say I miss anything, as there’s an aftermarket app that will replace nearly all Samsung bloat ware, however I would say that sometimes some of the SPen gestures are missed, but not al ot!

The New Stuff :

Shortcut keys, smooth interface, more stable applications, faster fell all together, are just some of the points with the 4.4.4 CyanogenMod upgrade. Its got the most customization options you can hope for.

So what does it look like and How  I installed it ?

I followed step by step the instructions provided in the following video by wwjoshdew have a look, I know its quite lengthy, but you should really go through once before attempting the install. Remember it will void your warranty as It will trigger the Knox Lock!

He runs through step by step, from the backup phase to the installation phase. I would recommend you backup the messaging apps such as whatsapp and bbm, as I tried to install the database files for them manually, but they didn’t work, therefore use something like Titanium Backup and do a full application backup and restore for some of the major apps.

The Sandwich Bar – A unique dining experience

I’ve been holding off this post for quite some time now due to working and modifying the new theme, didn’t think it would take me this much time and I’ve been quite lazy recently hehe.

I took my wife and kids out to visit International Optics in Plaza Center Salmiya for my wife to check her eye site, when we left we saw some cartoon figures and my son’s favorite (hulk) in the basement area, we didn’t know that there was a restaurant in the basement!

Its a fully tv-themed restaurant and you’ll definitely find one of your favorite characters, ranging from the cartoon (5omaasee) to the Ninja turtles and Saw.

So what’s so special ?

One : You order your food – simple and normal, then while you are waiting they dimmed the lights and closed the restaurant shutters, put some music on and brought some glow in the dark lights and toys for us to wear and take photos hehe.

Then they put the lights on and  brought out costumes for the children and yourself (if you have the guts) to wear hehe. My kids loved it, took some photos and then they got them another set and another set of costumes, they totally loved it!

Later they brought over the food (food was ok), but the utensils were a laugh, we had ketchup and mustard guns, long forks to feed the children across the table, high quality plastic utensils for the kids, funny looking water and juice bottles.

The music and atmosphere were great, the only downside to the place was it needed more air circulation as when they started preparing the food in the back kitchen you’d still smell as if you were cooking it yourself, which is sometimes normal in some restaurant – casual wear recommended.

I’d recommend taking your kids there! Its very rare to find these places in Kuwait, lovely atmosphere for birthday parties too! The Sandwich bar is located in Plaza Mall – Salmiya

 

The LG G3 – The Reason LG might win the Android War

The last LG handset I used was an LG dual SIM which I used when I traveled it was a very basic android handset, but I basically needed a dual sim card phone on a budget.

Coming from the note 3 I didn’t know that I would be this attracted to the LG G3 ! The moment you use it you can feel its faster and more stable than the note 3. Not once did instagram hang and stop, the default notification are ok to use out of the box unlike the whistling tone of the Samsung, the phone interface is simple and less cluttered than Samsung’s TouchWiz and is also a lot more responsive. The screen resolution and Camera were two important features that really caught my attention on the G3. I have also been using it without a screen protector for over a week now and it looks as new as the day I got it! Tapping to wake the screen up is also a cool feature that I enjoyed, as having the phone on the table you can simply triple tap and the device would work, or by having a knock pattern you can unlock your device without the screen turning on.

One of the major advancements was the ability to hide and re-position the bottom buttons, so you can have them similar to the Samsung or HTC, whichever you prefer.

With regards to the on and off keys and the volume key at the back, it was ok, but sometimes felt weird and unconventional and would turn the screen on accidentally when its in my pocket against another object. Button shortcuts mean you can start the camera by holding the bottom key, the flash is a double flash that gives a yellow hue due to the 2 LEDs (yellow and white) which gives the photographs a more natural feel. The laser sensor senses movement on and focuses accordingly. The back panel gave the device a prestigious feel and overall the G3 feels like a high end flagship.

Something I discovered while I was looking for the features online was the built in remote charging feature which meant all you have to do is buy the charging dock and if your phone is the correct region, It would have the remote charging back and you would simply have to place it on the charging dock for it to charge.

After the release of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, I believe that the G3 is quite the competitor to both Samsung and the One Plus One, it might well be the phone that will make me switch from the Samsung world. I really liked how it worked the size, the resolution and the friendliness, its interface is light and the battery capacity is similar to that of the Note 3 if not better.

In the end, would I recommend it ?

I’m honestly thinking of swapping my current Samsung Note 3 for a G3, the size, the screen the speed the stability the camera, it made me feel my Samsung was getting old which doesn’t usually happen until a new note is out!

The G3 is available from Zain in a number of packages or can be purchased without a contract for 179 KWD.

NB: The 16 GB version comes with 2 GB of RAM, whereas the 32 GB version comes with 3 GB of RAM (recommended).

I have taken some time off blogging due to a lot of time consuming stuff that just pops up and a couple of projects that I’ve been working on the Fj cruiser which I’ll write up in due time. One of my other main reasons I got busy was that I was working on my new updated theme, unfortunately the developers had forgotten an integral part (the ability to view older posts by page number). I tried as much as I can to fix it however I still haven’t been able to find a solution. I’ve changed the official launch date to the beginning of October, lets just hope the developers get around the problem as soon as possible.

What’s coming up ? We until its a little cooler I’ll be focusing on technology and with all the new devices coming out I’ll be busy keeping you up to date with the latest device information so stay Tune!
