Pamper Your Ride with @washtime_kw

A few days ago I decided to try out a car cleaning company that’s been around for almost 2 years now. They use the latest cleaning compounds and chemicals as well as really looking into the quality of the work they are providing. They have a mobile van that comes to your home and cleans your car on your door step, without you having to take your car anywhere.

They were very prompt in timing and took almost 5 hrs 30 mins to complete my car which for me was too long, but also made me re-assured that they wont try to cramp everything in a short 2 hour session.

Here are a Series of Before and After Shots I took when they worked on My FJ cruiser.

Giving the Latest Blackberry Z30 a Shot!

DudeAndroid, BlackBerry, Internet, Technology, Telecomm 2 Comments

I have the full conviction that nothing beats Blackberry Handsets when it comes to the area of a Business Phone. Email, Email, Email, both my iPhone and Samsung put me in a tight situation when emails were delayed or sometimes never arrived until I refreshed, attachments were a disaster to view and sometimes never open up.

Unfortunately the Z10 wasn’t a great success in the ME region, due to the fact that it lacked the support of major app players in the market such as native whatsapp and Instagram, and that just pushed people away from it big time!

Email support was great, the keyboard was great, we covered the launch event last year in Dubai (click here for post), If only Blackberry waited full app support from Instagram, whatsapp it would’ve been a great success.

The Z30, another story, a great device with such great potential but killed due to the Changes and the political situation with Blackberry. The processor was just right, the screen size a great 5.5″ Super Amoled display, 2GB of RAM, 16 GB internal storage space and support of up to a 64 GB MicroSD card, the camera 8 MP, and the carbon fiber back cover gives you that unique luxurious feel to the handset. The main advantage to it now is that Android APK’s can now be installed on the BB, therefore getting all those apps that you are used to using on all your Android handsets.

The 10-Port Charge Everything Charger

DudeReview, Technology, Telecomm Leave a Comment

I’ve tried all sorts of chargers for my Gadgets, but finally settled on something very basic yet more comfortable to use than any other charger I’ve used so far.

The 10-Port USB charger, I found this while browsing around at blink.com.kw, I bought one for 7.5 KD, and then chose to buy another 2 one for home and the other for my home office.

  • I currently have I-Dapt chargers everywhere, but they lack in 2 major areas :
  • I have the i-dapt – 3 which has two top sockets and one USB cable entry – Which means you’re limited to the amount of devices you can charge simultaneously.

To put your device on charge, means you can’t use it while it is charging and its sometimes difficult to install your phone on the adapter (especially MicroUSB sockets), and even more when its next to you on the night stand and you can’t see because its dark!

Having socket USB chargers work fine, but then again your phone will be further away from you and you wont be able to comfortably use it, with the 10-port charger, you simply have that near you and then you can charge all your gadgets and have them all charge at the same time, not sacrificing one on another!

The 10-port charger from blink, has 8 USB 1 Amp Chargers and 2 2.1 Amp chargers (for Ipads and large tablets).

What more can you ask for ? It also has very clear indicator lights to show that everything is running smooth, would be nice if the indicator would tell you if your device is fully charged or not! I’ve been using it for a week now and I couldn’t be happier, I don’t need to sacrifice a device from charging I can charge them all, and leave the i-dapt if I ran out of charging cables .

The only downside is that you need cables and in an office environment, charging cables can go missing pretty fast!

Even better, the price dropped from 7.5 to 3.7 KD! why wait when you can buuuuuuuy !

Dudegames, Technology, Telecomm Leave a Comment

New Gadget you may think ? Well guess again, its just an art toy  / figurine, or a collectable called Kidrobots. Its the first time I ever saw kidrobots, and my first question to the person standing next to this display, is this a new robot from Samsung, which is where they said no, its a figurine, that are inspired by the power of Samsung Galaxy Mobile devices.

When Should You Change Your Car Tires?

DudeBloggers, Cars, Kuwait, Review Leave a Comment

Summer is coming and there’s no better time than now to get both your car and tires checked, the weather will only get warmer and warmer and now its kind of bearable. So I would highly recommend fully servicing your vehicles.

In this post, i’ll discuss some of the things you should look into before purchasing a new tire. Due to the extreme heat we get in the summer, I’m no expert, but out of experience I would recommend you replace your tires every two years maximum, to ensure the braking and traction is not degraded and that you minimize any incidents due to worn out tires.

How to identify if your tires need changing ?

1. Check your thread pattern depth :

PennyQuarterTest-590x300

Its a really tricky thing to identify the thread pattern and to check if it needs changing, there’s a test called the penny test, where you simply hold a penny upside down in between two threads and if you can see the top of Lincoln’s head then it needs to be replaced.

2. Check for cracks in the sidewalls and the top threads.

This is easy to do, but you should really check the inner and outer sidewalls for cracks such as the photos below, this usually happens if the tires dried out and are over or under inflated.

Tyre_sidewall_crack

3. Check for any tire deformities or bulges which usually occur when you hit a curb or the white dividers on the road, these sometimes cause vibrations in the tires or unconventional wear.

4. Check the Manufacture date on the tire (you’ll also need this when buying a new tire):

You can so that by looking at the week number and year on the tires and you’ll find something like (from http://www.tirerack.com/)  :  For kuwait I’d suggest a maximum life of 3 years for your tires, the heat of the asphalt in the summer would degrade the life of the tires exponentially in our region.

In the example above:
DOT U2LL LMLR 5107

51 Manufactured during the 51st week of the year
07 Manufactured during 2007

5. Ensure that you get the same tire size and speed rating (if not a better rating)!

A lot of retailers might cheat you out if they don’t have the same tire size and might tell you wider tires are better or give you better traction, or that you should get taller tires, don’t fall for that ! If in doubt check the manual! Always install the same size as the OEM size, so that you would get the optimal breaking and life out of your car and tires together.

tyreRating

The first two numbers show you the size of the tires, the number after the R is your wheel size in this case it was an 18″ Wheel. The letter in the end shows the speed rating. In this case it was H, which states a maximum speed of 210 Km/h.

6. If your tires vibrate you should get them balanced, In Kuwait the average cost of balancing is 2 KD/tire but it can go up to 5 KD depending on the size of your tires. Whereas if your car is leaning left or right or you don’t have a straight you should check your wheel alignment, if I were you I would go to a garage with a computerized alignment machine, so that you wouldn’t have to go back and forth multiple numbers of time, and this usually costs between 15 and 20 KD depending on the car size and how much work has to be done.

Back from Barcelona

DudeEnvironment, Events, General, Review, Telecomm, Travel 1 Comment

Last week I had a chance to visit Barcelona for the Mobile World Congress that takes place once a year, this year and last year it took place in the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona.

The Fira Gran Via was Huge! One of the biggest Exhibition halls I’ve been in ! it comprises of more than 8 different halls, and has a very nice and unique structure. The building was  designed by the Japanese architect Toyo Ito, winner of the Pritzker prize.

Here’s a panorama Shot i’ve taken with the Samsung Note 3, Amazing shot.

I arrived a day early, and it was a Sunday, so all I can do was go for a walk, all the shops were closed, as they have a weekend and they don’t open in the weekend.  The following is a photo of the Parc de Pedralbes which is located on the Diagonal.

Ceracoat Ceramic – Nano Technology Protection

DudeReview, Technology Leave a Comment

We’ve been hearing a lot about these products, I personally was a little hesitant to buy, since you’d never know how it will go and will it be a worthwhile investment or another As seen on TV scam. Well i’ve decided to put it to the test and I was shocked and totally in love with the results!!

The first product I review from Ceracoat Ceramic is the shoe care product, it was amazing!

Simply:

1. Test shoes (they should be able to absorb water for Nano Technology to work)

2. Cover shoes with a Coat of Ceracoat Ceramic

http://instagram.com/p/kkf2KCSZQZ/

4. Do all your other shoes 😀 😀 and tell the world about it.. i was hesitant to try ketchup as the threads in my shoes provide little holes for water to go through, next time i’ll give them a try! FYI, this product is fully manufactured in Switzerland.

Its sold on a number of websites including :

MrBabu, Blink.com.kw, and Ubuy.com.kw for 15.45 KWD

I’ll be reviewing a product from ceracoat every week 😀 Enjoy..

My New Gaming Addiction – Real Racing 3

DudeCars, Gaming, General, Racing Leave a Comment

Technology has improved so fast, you’re getting games that you would play on your PS2 before in even better graphics and performance, its just unbelievable.

Real Racing 3 a car racing simulator, which I can’t get enough of! I try to forget all about it at work because I would become so addicted and would play over and over just to make sure i’d get 1st place in all the races (I don’t settle for anything less than 1st place in every race) and if my car is not strong enough i’ll upgrade it and try again, or get a new car unlocked and try again in the new car!

The tracks are nice, the cars and graphics are all great, only a little problem with the bots / computerized cars, as they wouldn’t take into consideration where you are exactly and you’d find them run into you directly.

Here’s a gaming review from TechCloud with actual footage and game play!

An App that controls who can call you without you knowing ?

DudeAndroid, App Store, Apple, Review, Technology 2 Comments

Some apps get control over who can call you and who can even send you sms messages, and I was actually both very shocked and intrigued that they didnt let me choose when I first installed the application.

It all started with the notification that appears on the main page which states that there are 182 verified spam numbers. The problem is those numbers can include restaurants trying to reach you to deliver your order, they can include your bank or even your child’s school. I would rather choose the numbers than having them blocking the callers automatically.

image

In order to check the settings, simply swipe left and choose settings.

image

In settings choose blocking and disable the radio buttons on the right, to ensure you choose who to block and not TrueCaller

I hope you find this information useful. I’ve verified this on the Android system, i’m not sure if the behavior is same on iPhone or not.

Replacing Your Damaged Garmin GPS Screen or Battery

DudeGeneral Leave a Comment

I know You don’t really need a GPS for Kuwait, but if you go offroading a lot or discover new places every once in a while it comes in very handy. Especially when finding alternative routes when going back home and facing a blocked road due to an accident.

The GPS was a life saver a couple of times with my wife, the best option is the Navigate to home, it makes life a lot easier for her and me. However one day, the GPS unit was in a Cup holder next to a filled paper 7-UP cup, unfortunately an accident happened and GPS unit ended up being submerged in 7 UP.

It works, but the screen is far from clear, so I went online looking for a replacement screen it was around $36 for the screen, and 10 KD for the delivery. Installation was easy, i followed this video from YouTube and managed to open it up and cleaning it all and installing the new screen.
