I know You don’t really need a GPS for Kuwait, but if you go offroading a lot or discover new places every once in a while it comes in very handy. Especially when finding alternative routes when going back home and facing a blocked road due to an accident.
The GPS was a life saver a couple of times with my wife, the best option is the Navigate to home, it makes life a lot easier for her and me. However one day, the GPS unit was in a Cup holder next to a filled paper 7-UP cup, unfortunately an accident happened and GPS unit ended up being submerged in 7 UP.
It works, but the screen is far from clear, so I went online looking for a replacement screen it was around $36 for the screen, and 10 KD for the delivery. Installation was easy, i followed this video from YouTube and managed to open it up and cleaning it all and installing the new screen.
First Dismanteling the outer layer and removing the 4 screws that held everything together :
Pulling out the main frame from the lower frame:
Frame Removed, now to remove the screen by un-attaching the data cable (there is a small lever which has to be lifted up for the data cable to be released)
Here the brown lever has to be carefully pulled up to release the data cable :
Voila, the old screen is removed :
7-Up/Pepsi/I’m not really sure what else.
Removed Everything and cleaned the lower housing : Cleaned the main board, but didn’t remove the protective plates :
The I re-attached everything in the reverse order and put everything together including the new screen and presto! Everything is working good as new.
Apparently you can also replace the battery on your old GPS and bring life into almost any old device. The nice thing about garmin is that you only need to update the maps and you’re good to go. This saved me from buying a new GPS (50KD+).
Here’s the removal video I used :

The LCD screen can be purchased from Amazon or Ebay, just make sure they state that the screen was tested.
