My New Toy: Motorola Xoom 3G

I was always thinking about trying out android, but wasn’t really convinced about the handsets, I really like the stability of apples iOS, however, I tried caffenated’s Samsung Galaxy 10″ WiFi tablet, (6ab3an he kept on boasting it was th ebest thing ever and i kept on teasing him and asking him if samsung are stuck with their devices that didn’t sell in Germany and are looking for potential advertisers :P) However I never knew how it really was until I bought this.

 

1. The Purchase ‘Fa9la’ :

I heard of this cool offer from Zain Kuwait, regarding buying the samsung galaxy 10″ 3G version on installments for 13.5 KWD a month  – It was a Eureka moment for me and it was a weekend, so I went to a Zain branch, but they said I must have a Visa or MasterCard to be able to acquire this offer, I only had an Amex card, because my mastercard was still not from Baitek out after transferring from NBK.

This was how I felt 🙁

A week has passed, and I started blabbing about that Zain can’t do this and why don’t they accept the Amex card, and a friend of mine heard me and said. Your totally wrong! I pay all my bills for Amex points all the time, just go to the branch and they’ll take it, so i went to another branch this time and they accepted the Amex card and it was so easy a process I couldn’t believe it was happening.

 

2. The Motorola Moment  :

Then the guy at the counter (most patient person ever  –  Thank you Zain) was like, Xoom comes with 32 Gb of storage isn’t that better than the Samsung ? He got me both boxes so i can read the specs off the boxes, but it was too much for me to take in and confusion set in 😛 .. I was going to go buy the Samsung 16 Gb 3G version and that was why I was there in the first place, but then I realised that the Xoom might be a better offer!

 

3. The “Call your friend for help moment”

Couldn’ think of anyone to call so I called my dear friend ‘Caffenated’, samsung’s advertising agent 😛 and we put everything down in terms of specs :

 

4. Motorola Xoom 32 Gb 3G VS Samsung Galaxy Tab 10″ 16 Gb 3G Version :

To put it simply:

Advantages of Xoom over Samsung:

  • 5 MP rear camera  – instead of 3 on Samsung
  • Better Speakers, and Speaker HD dock from manufacturer
  • Expandable storage and availability of MicroSD slot (i.e. 32 internak + 32 microSD – on the way )  (not available on Samsung)

 

Advantages of Xoom over samsung Samsung over Xoom :

  • Better screen quality
  • lighter and thinner and looks in general
  • download rate of up to 21 Mbps, and 10 Mbps for the Xoom (this was the only point that was bothering me about the Xoom)

 

I ended up buying the Xoom! I will post some more review point in the coming weeks as I really utilize it to the max!

DRIVER is BACK!

and I thought i wont play this game again. I used to be addicted to Driver 1 and 2, at last DRIVER San Fransisco’s Demo is out! Its around 1386 MB for the Multiplayer Demo I’m currently downloading, i’ll try to post some videos of actual playing later on! I haven;t been on my PS3 for quite some time, got it out a few days ago before the vacation, got a ‘playstation+’ subscription and i’m love’n it!

My Sheeel Experience

Today I checked out Sheeel and placed an order for the Logitech Bluetooth model they had, I was thinking that, its one of the things currently missing in my sound system, that I couldn’t connect my devices to it via bluetooth. It said the item was to be delivered in 48 hours, to my amazement I placed an order in 2:16 PM the item arrived at 6 PM ! 4 Hours! Yeah.. exactly! Good Work sheeel, will do business with you again! Its my first experience with sheeel but it probably wont be my last 😀

This is what came in the box, glad it came with the wire, didn’t feel like going shopping for one!

The Ultimate HDMI Hub for Your Home Entertainment System

I’ve been looking around for one of these in Kuwait but haven’t found any, blink.com.kw provide standard HDMI switching, but no Optical audio switching, which is what i’m basically looking for! I’d love to connect all my input sources to my Home Surround System as well as my TV so I need one with HDMI and at least an Optical Audio output I can connect to the sound system.

 

This first box is from Octava, seems like the most professional of all the ones listed here but is also around 8 times more expensive, setting you back around 280 USD.

 

These are some of the ones on blink (but they only support HDMI without the Optical Audio Output):

 

I found the following one  on Amazon, Reviews weren’t all that good but the price was good:

This one seems to be the one i’m most likely going to buy, the price is good + it had 2 HDMI outputs so that if you wish you can divert all your inputs to a second monitor.

This is nearly exactly the same as the one above however it had more reviews on Amazon.

If any of you have any suggestions on types that would also include at least an option for 4 HDMI inputs and an Optical Audio Output from the device but takes its signal from the HDMI cable please do let me know, i’ll be doing some more research and perhaps look around a little in Hawally.

Whats the cheapest way to ship from the US to Kuwait ?

Its been on my mind for some time now, I need to order 4 new tires for my car, + a spare RIM and Tire! Each Rim weighs around 31 LBS (apprx 14 KG) and each tire weighs around 52 LBS (approx. 23 KG). The other major problem is that the cost of shipping is around 4 times more than the cost of the the items. The spare Rim costs 35 KD + (78 KD shipping), each tire will cost me around 225 USD x5 =1125  (Shipping costs approx. = 638 KWD) if using normal shipping via aramex i.e. way more than it would normally cost me :s ).

 

   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I’ve been told you can do another sort of shipping if its more than 40 KG, i’ll give them a call tomorrow to check. If any of you know where I can get Nittos here in Kuwait, please do let me know. I’ve checked a few places, including ORP and Summit, but they don’t have the size and type i want. I want Nittos due to the higher speed ratings on the tires (SR rating  = 180 Km/h), all other similar tires (all terrain tires) have a max speed rating of 160 Km/h which isn’t what i’m looking for :D.

Facts and figures :

Tire Size i’m looking for : 305/60/R18

Total Weight of 5 tires : 23*5 = 115 KG

1 Moto Metal 18″ Rim : Weight = 14 KG

Total weight = 129 KG

 

 

I called Aramex today, gave them my number but they never called back :s .. Gotta wait till after the eid break I guess 😀

First I’d like to apologize for not writing any posts lately, its been a hectic few past weeks but the wait is over and i’m back to my normal daily routines. We have a new member in the family, we’ve been blessed with a beautiful baby girl on the 22nd of August 2011.
