The Sigma SD1 features a 46 megapixel 24×16mm APS-C X3 direct image sensor, plus a lightweight body made from magnesium alloy. It was unveiled last year in the Photokina trade show. The camera is said to provide photographers with a new segment in professional cameras, providing higher mega pixels than the 21.1 Canon 1D Mark III and the 24.5-megapixel Nikon D3x. The SD1’s sensor has resolution of 4,800×3,200 pixels for 15.4 megapixels total–but that’s without any interpolation.
